What:
A four part series of basketball clinics for 5th-8th graders in the SFV/LA area. These clinics will be run through the Notre Dame athletics department and operated by coaches in the men’s ND basketball program. Each series will have its own theme.
WHO: Kids 6-8 grade
Series #1: “Skills and Drills”
This series will focus on teaching the players the specific routines and drills that we do every day in practice to help our players develop offensively and defensively. This will include drills that can be done alone and drills that involve live play.
Series #2: “Pace and Space”
This series will focus on teaching kids how to execute the individual skills and team concepts needed to play in the ND basketball fast break system.
Series #3: “Defend and Rotate”
This series will focus on teaching kids how to defend the full length and width of the court. Players will learn how to scramble, sprint and communicate in a fast paced, pressure defensive system.
Series #4: “Read and React”
This series will focus on teaching players specific 3 and 4 player actions on offense and how to read and react to different defensive coverages. An emphasis will be put on teaching both the defensive and offensive reads and reactions that need to be made for the actions.
Every series players will be taught the values of the program and how they relate to on court success.
Where: NDHS gym
When: 11-1pm
Series 1: September 10, 17 and 24th
Series 2: October 8, 15 and 22nd
Series 3: December 30th, 31st, Jan 7th
Series 4: April 14, 21 and 28
Why:
This program will enable the ND coaching staff to work with young players in the community that are interested in ND basketball. It will be used as a way to not only expose players to the coaches and the program, but also act as a starting point for exposing them to the mission and values of the school. This will enable us to compete with programs that have middle schools and feeder programs.
