The varsity baseball team has put together a more than stellar season and is set to take on Corona High School in the quarter finals of the CIF Southern Section Division I Championship this Friday.
The home run hitting knights have been on a roll, recently earning the Mission League Championship title after a 5-4 victory over Loyola and several series sweeps. The back-to-back back Mission League Champions are made up of a talented roster coached by Tom Dill.
The Mission League Championship adds to a list of accomplishments the team has already acquired, including winning the Boras Classic for Southern California. The Knights took on the tough task of facing the No.2-ranked Huntington Beach. On top of this, the team was down five runs going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Amidst the immense pressure and large deficit, the Knights were able to show off their unique winning ability and score eight runs to rally towards a 8-6 victory.
The Boras Classic Southern Championship and Mission League Championship has boosted the team atop many rankings. The Knights have become the consensus No.1-ranked team in California on a multitude of lists, including MaxPreps, Prep Baseball Report, and The Los Angeles Times.
The Knights hope to continue their success going into the quarter finals of the CIF Southern Section Baseball Championship, following a 1-0 victory over Hart High School and then a 5-3 victory over Bonita High School. The Knights will play at Corona High School at 3:15 PM on Friday.
The spectacular season is attributed to many factors, including the senior leadership on the roster, who have had immense success during their final Notre Dame season.
Many of the senior Knights will be advancing their academic and athletic talents at the collegiate level. This list of collegiate commits consists of Justin Lee - UCLA, Dean West - UCLA, Oliver Boone - Cal Berkeley, Madden Ocko - Fordham, Greg Pierantoni - Pamono-Pitzer, Ryan Limerick - Cal Berkeley, Wilson Henze - Swathmore.
