For the first time in program history, the Notre Dame High School baseball team will head to the CIF Southern Section Division I Championships, where the Knights will take on JSerra on Friday at Cal State Fullerton.
The Knights head to the Championship game after putting together an impressive 20-7-1 regular season record, which also includes a Co-Mission League Championship title with Harvard-Westlake.
The CIF-Southern Section eighth seeded Knights started their playoff run against Mira Costa, where Cole Clark pitched a complete game and had a one-hit shutout, helping the team to a 3-0 victory. Notre Dame’s first round win advanced the team to a second-round road game against El Dorado. The team was led by Christian Miranda, who had a three-run homer, helping the Knights to a 6-2 victory.
Notre Dame kept its momentum going in the quarterfinals, as a walk-off bunt from Brandon Gonzaga led the Knights to an upset win over the No. 1 team in the state, Orange Lutheran, advancing them to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Oliver Boone pitched a complete game and shutout Huntington Beach, leading the Knights to a 2-0 victory to advance them to the CIF Southern Section Division I Championships.
Notre Dame will take on a talented JSerra team that is No. 2 in the state and has compiled a 22-10 record. The game will start at 7:30 PM on Friday. There will be rooter busses for students. All students who decide to take the bus will be given free pizza and a free Notre Dame Athletics t-shirt.
