Notre Dame High School has announced that its men’s and women’s varsity basketball teams will be hosting the Battle of the Valley presented by UCLA Health at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif., on January 27.
The varsity men’s basketball team will be taking on Sierra Canyon in the San Fernando Valley’s much anticipated match-up, as both teams are ranked nationally and have both competed against some of the top teams in the nation.
The Battle of the Valley boasts several top ranked players, including Notre Dame’s Dusty Stromer, Caleb Foster, Mercy Miller and Sierra Canyon’s Bronny James. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Notre Dame High School is pleased to host this event as part of its 75th Anniversary celebration.
The varsity women’s team will be hosting Harvard-Westlake, a tough Mission League match up. The Knights will head into Mission League play and the Battle of the Valley with a 13-1 record.
“We're thankful to UCLA Health for supporting us." It’s exciting for us to get an opportunity to play in such a historic venue, where some of the greatest players to ever play once called home,” said head women’s varsity coach Paul Gross. “It should be a good game between two great teams playing in a tough Mission League. We couldn’t ask for a better location.”
“The team and I are grateful to UCLA Health for their support and opportunity to play in the house that John Wooden built,” said head men’s varsity coach Matt Sargeant. “We’ll do our best to honor the moment, the game and Pauley Pavilion with the effort and peace of mind it deserves.”
"I am extremely excited about being able to give both our men’s and women’s basketball programs the opportunity to play at Pauley Pavilion," said Athletic Director Alec Moss. "The Mission League is recognized as one of the best in the country and playing at a venue like Pauley is only fitting. I am grateful to Harvard Westlake and Sierra Canyon for agreeing to make this happen. It will be a great event for many young men and women who work so hard and should be recognized for their hard work."
