The Notre Dame men’s basketball team has been named the 2023 CIF Division I Regional Champion after beating Sierra Canyon 80-61 on Tuesday night. The Knights’ victory marks the fourth straight win against the Trailblazers this season.
The No. 1 seeded Knights outscored No. 3 Sierra Canyon in every quarter in front of a packed house and a loud Notre Dame student section at Calabasas High School. Senior point guard Caleb Foster commanded the court, as he had 28 points, while junior guard Mercy Miller had 18 points and senior guard Dusty Stromer had 11.
This is the first time in program history that Notre Dame has won a CIF Regional Championship and advanced to the State Finals. The Knights earn their first ever trip to up to the Golden Center after pulling together wins against Fairfax, Mira Costa, Mater Dei and Sierra Canyon. All four playoff games were won by 16 points or more.
The Knights will take on Granada High School from Livermore, Calif. Granada earned the No. 9 seed for Northern California after going 22-10 during the regular season and 5-4 in league play. Granada upset No. 1 Clovis West in the second round of playoffs.
The State Championship will be played this Friday, March 10 at the Golden Center in Sacramento, Calif. Tipoff will be at 8PM.
