This Season will be Coach Gross’ 19th year as the head Coach of the Girl’s Varsity Basketball team. Under his guidance, the team has won 306 games, 2 CIF Titles, 4 League Championships, and 6 Twenty-Win Seasons. In 2005, he coached the Lady Knights to the 1st Mission League Title in school history in only his second season. In 2008 & 2009, the Lady Knights won Back-to-Back Mission League Titles for the 1st time. In 2009, Coach Gross led the Lady Knights to the CIF Division 4AA Championship. This was the 1st girl’s team to win a CIF title in school history in any sport. The Lady Knights added their 2nd CIF title in 2020. Both in 2009 and 2020, Coach Gross was named both SCIBCA Division Coach of the Year and the Daily News Coach of the Year. Before becoming the Varsity Head Coach, Coach Gross also coached 5 years as a JV & Freshman coach at Notre Dame, winning 5 Mission League Championships. Prior to returning to coach at Notre Dame, Coach Gross coached the boys’ basketball teams at Stoneridge Prep (Varsity), Alemany (JV), and St. Genevieve (JV). Coach Gross was also the head Freshman Football Coach for 20 years (1998-2017), winning 14 League Championships and going undefeated 7 times.
Coach Gross graduated from Notre Dame High School as a member of the Class of 1991. He comes from a family of N.D. graduates including his daughter Bayley ‘13, his two older brothers, Patrick ’86 & Marc ‘88, his younger sister, Michelle ’94, and her son Josh Love ‘17. Coach Gross got his B.A. in Mathematics from Cal State Northridge and his M.A in Education and his CA Teaching Credential from Loyola Marymount University. This is his 24th year teaching, 22nd at Notre Dame, in the Math Department. Coach Gross currently resides in Santa Clarita with his wife, Mayra, and his 2 young sons, Matthew (3) & Ryan (1/2).
